Is That an Elephant in the Room?

You may think I’m about to talk about an amazing South African safari with amazing elephants lurking around. I wish. No, the elephant in the room I’m about to talk about is a coronavirus. 

Let’s start with: What is a coronavirus? 

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that may cause illness in animals or humans.  In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. 

What is COVID-19?

The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

Where should you get your updates and information about COVID-19?

Reputable sources such as the CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO). If you’re like me, you have several, let’s call them “know-it-all”, Facebook friends. Please disregard their posts and opinions. 

Should you travel to the affected area? 

That is a personal decision. While I can advise you on the CDC, World Health Organization (WHO), and our local travel partner’s recommendations, I’m unable to make the decision on whether you should travel.
